The California Lighthouse

Thursday, August 27, 2009 - ArubaPokerClassic

Looking for a panoramic view of Aruba? Head to the California Lighthouse, named after the steamship California, which wrecked nearby in 1891. Just watch out for the small, wild goats that roam the landscape.

Matt Savage returns to the 2009 Aruba Poker Classic

Tuesday, August 18, 2009 - ArubaPokerClassic

This year, online poker players have an unprecedented number of reasons to join the online poker site in Aruba with today’s announcement that the world’s leading tournament director Matthew Savage will return to oversee UB’s prestigious 2009 Aruba Poker Classic.

“Matt’s natural ability to run a smooth and fair tournament and his talent for making it feel more like a party than a poker room is one of the many reasons why our Aruba event is still one of the most popular on the annual calendar, ” said Phil Hellmuth.

“For the third straight year, Savage Tournaments partners with UB to deliver one of my favorite tournaments of the year,” added Matt Savage. “In celebrating UB’s 10th Anniversary, I am honored to once again be part of the Aruba Poker Classic; with an extended tournament schedule, plus a group of floor staff and dealers that is second to none, 2009 is shaping up to be one for the ‘scrapbook’.”

As the Tournament Director for the Aruba Poker Classic, October 3rd through 10th, Savage will manage eight days of all-out poker action, which is expected to attract over 500 players from around the globe, competing for a slice of an overall festival prize pool in excess of six million.

To date, world famous event manager Savage has directed countless million-dollar tournaments including the WSOP, various WPT events, and the Aussie Millions. He has appeared on almost 400 televised poker shows on ESPN, GSN, Fox Sports, Travel Channel and other popular networks.

However, Savage’s pedigree reaches far beyond just calling the shots on the poker room floor. As one of the founders of the Tournament Directors Association, he has been instrumental in standardizing tournament rules throughout the world, and in 2003, his far-reaching contribution saw him inducted into the Poker Room Manager’s Hall of Fame as its very first member.

Online poker players can enter a series of online satellites to win an $8,500 Aruba prize package at UB. The prize package includes the $5,500 main event seat and $3,000 for travel and accommodation.

The Radisson Hotel isn’t just popular because of its luscious grounds, incredible service, savory foods and relaxing atmosphere. It also has the best beach on Palm Beach, a favorite of those who love a quiet and clean beach with lots of space.

If you get tired of the sun, the Radisson beach has tons of palapas that offer a cool spot in the shade.

Don’t forget to visit the Alto Vista Chapel

Thursday, August 13, 2009 - ArubaPokerClassic

The Chapel of Alto Vista is one of Aruba’s most popular attractions. Pilgrims make their way up a winding road, dotted with crosses that mark the Stations of the Cross. And tour groups can make the same journey on horses or via jeeps. The original chapel was constructed in 1750. In 1952 it was rebuilt. It’s definitely worthwhile to visit.

The perfect diving destination

Wednesday, August 12, 2009 - ArubaPokerClassic

If you’re into diving, Aruba has several reef and wreck sites to explore. You can check out the Caribbean’s largest site, the Antilla, a German freighter from World War II.

Other notable dive sites in Aruba include the California wreck, the Pedernales (a WWII oil tanker) and the Arashi wreck, which is great for beginner divers.

Experience Aruba firsthand. Join us at the 2009 Aruba Poker Classic.

Another reason to stay at the Radisson

Monday, August 10, 2009 - ArubaPokerClassic

The Radisson has three restaurants to die for:

• Gilligan’s: This is what fun, relaxed dining in Aruba is all about. Gilligan’s Beach Bar and Grill serves all your favorite salads, burgers, pizzas, fajitas and sandwiches.

• Laguna: Nestled alongside a cooling fresh water lagoon amidst lush tropical foliage, Laguna offers indoor and alfresco dining and serves breakfast and dinner. Each Monday through Saturday evening a different themed buffet is featured with the day of the week dictating the menu.

• Sunset Grille: Radisson’s signature restaurant in Aruba, boasting the AAA 4-Diamond award.

If you’re more into drinks, the Radisson has the only martini bar in Aruba. Its name is Mira Solo, which means “look at the sun” in Papiamento.

Aruban Geography 101

Friday, August 7, 2009 - ArubaPokerClassic

Aruba is a tiny island that’s just 70 square miles. It’s located in the Southern Caribbean and its mild climate, constant breezes and friendly residents make it a popular Caribbean destination for couples and families. Aruba claimed its autonomy from the Netherlands Antilles in the 1980s and is an independent entity within the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

It is one of the Lesser Antilles (part of the Netherlands Antilles). Together with Bonaire and Curacao, they form the ABC islands of the Leeward Antilles. In terms of population, Aruba sits in the middle with Curacao taking the top spot.

Aruba’s hotels are all located along the southwestern shore of the island, along a stretch of white sandy beaches that are cooled by constant breezes. Not all hotels have direct access to the beach – but the Radisson does. This paradise setting is your best bet for your stay.

This is why Aruba is the place to be

Friday, August 7, 2009 - ArubaPokerClassic

If you see a tree that seems to be growing at a 45-degree angle while you’re partying on the beach in Aruba, don’t be alarmed. It’s the Divi tree, Aruba’s national tree and it grows that way as a result of the blowing offshore wind.

Don’t take our word for it. Experience Aruba firsthand this October.
